A: The Fenton Fire, caused by a lightning strike, is on Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area south of US68/KY60 near the Fenton Campground and along the Central Hardwoods Scenic Trail. Birmingham Ferry Decision

Tina Tilley, Area Supervisor at Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area, has made a final decision on storm damage in the Birmingham Ferry and Cravens Bay areas. Storm damaged trees within 75 feet of existing roads and recreation infrastructure will be cut and left on the ground. No commercial logging will occur. “This decision is based on relevant science and in collaboration with concerned citizens,” says Tilley. “We will be cutting damaged trees and laying them flat on the ground, improving safety for visitors who use the areas. Update 3/5/2017 By Curtis Fowler, Range Technician at Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area I recently received a quick update from West Virginia’s elk manager regarding the status of elk Land Between the Lakes provided to West Virginia for release into the wild. It seems that most of them are doing OK up there in the coal hills, though 2 have died, the rest seem mostly healthy and content. The herd has stayed mostly on the Tomblin Wildlife Management Area so far, which is very good! They have stayed primarily within a 2.5 mile circle and have not entered…

How will you attempt to improve communication of land management goals and practices in the future, how do you sell it to the public? Answer: Land Between The Lakes is working with the Advisory Board to develop a collaborative process that engages members in learning about and advising the Area Supervisor on land management goals and practices.
