Camp Rainbow at Brandon Spring

Fun for Everyone! Every year for one week in June, Clarksville’s Camp Rainbow meets at Brandon Spring Group Center at Land Between the Lakes. Kids can fish, canoe, swim, make crafts, play games, and have fun all week long. Camp Rainbow caters to the needs of seriously ill children with medical problems that keep them from attending regular camps. Each kid is attended by a volunteer counselor and can do whatever activities they want. Volunteer staff also includes doctors, nurses, and counselors, courtesy of Premier Medical Group of Clarksville, Tennessee. Visitors claimed all 100 geocache coins recently. This year’s challenge is over. The geocaches at Land Between the Lakes were more than just GPS points, though. Submitted by Josh Frye, Public Affairs Specialist I was honored to sit in with our wildlife and range staff as they hosted a delegation from West Virginia’s Division of Natural Resources this week.  The feeling of history in the making was tangible as we discussed details of their State’s first elk re-introduction. Updated May 9, 2017 Forest Service staff have begun placing gypsy moth traps across Land Between the Lakes this week. Please leave the traps alone, as they are used to learn about new isolated populations. Thank you. Gypsy moths originated in Europe and Asia.  We consider them an invasive species.  The first known occurrence of the gypsy moth occurred in 1869 around Boston, MA shortly after Etienne Trouvelot imported egg masses from France.
