Camping season is just around the corner so dust off that camping gear! Hillman Ferry, Piney, and Energy Lake Campgrounds open for the 2016 season Tuesday, March 1.
Check out the latest improvements, upgrades, and regular maintenance completed at Hillman Ferry Campground over the winter.
Two picnic shelters at the Beach, and behind the Outpost were rehabilitated using revenue generated at Hillman Ferry Campground.

Due to poor water distribution during rain events, there were ongoing issues with deteriorating road conditions in A and B loops . Using soil and water restoration funds, capital improvement funds, and road maintenance funds, a new culvert was installed under the road in Area A. Rip rap was also placed to line the ditch along the road. This section of the road was re-paved.

Using soil and water restoration funds, a roadside ditch in Area B was lined with rip rap to slow the water flow and reduce erosion.

A new foot bridge connecting Area T to the Amphitheater was installed. The natural coloring of the bridge will blend in with its surroundings. Funding for the bridge came from Hillman Ferry’s capital improvement fund, which is funded from a portion of the revenue generated at Hillman Ferry Campground.

Other improvements to the campground included re-painting the shuffleboard court and replacing the decking at the Area B boat ramp using revenue dedicated to annual maintenance at the campground.
These improvement were made possible by Land Between The Lakes Engineering staff, Soil Scientist, Transportation Program Manager, Contracting Officer, Hillman Ferry Campground staff, and Envirosmart, Inc. Thanks to all for getting Hillman and many other areas ready for a great 2016 season.
We hope to see you soon!
